A 76 year old male presents with
weakness of the right side of his body. He is a known hypertensive on a
thiazide diuretic. He does not smoke or drink and has been otherwise well.
On examination he has a pulse rate of
80 beats per minute , regular in rhythm , BP 170/110 , heart sounds were
normal with no murmurs , there was no carotid bruit.
Examination of the nervous system
revealed a right hemiparesis.
