A young female who is known to have Turner’s syndrome is seen in the clinic. You have a medical student in with you and he asks you what cardiac abnormalities may occur in this condition.

You reply that the main abnormalities are coarctation of the aorta, bicuspid aortic valve and:

a)   Aortic stenosis

b)   Ventricular septal defect

c)    Atrial septal defect

d)   Pulmonary stenosis

e)   Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy

Answer: a)

The main cardiac abnormalities that may occur in Turner’s syndrome are coarctation of the aorta, bicuspid aortic valve and aortic stenosis
