A 25-year-old female has recently had a forceps delivery. She complains of pain in the groin and on examination she has weakness of adduction and internal rotation of the hip. There is sensory impairment over the medial aspect of the thigh. The affected nerve is the:

a)      Femoral nerve

b)      Sciatic nerve

c)      Lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh

d)      Tibial nerve

e)      Obturator nerve

Answer:

The obturator nerve supplies gracilis, adductor longus and brevis, adductor magnus, obturator externus and the skin over the medial  aspect of the thigh.
